1. Read the project management handbook
thoroughly. You can easily find the PMP Handbook published by the PMI online. The
handbook clarifies all your queries and how to go around to take the PMP exam
and getting certified. The book is a 20 min read, and will help you with your
inquiries regarding the strategies for applying and taking the PMP exam.
2. Meet the eligibility criterion. You
need to determine whether or not you qualify for the PMP certification. There are two categories through which you can
qualify. They are:
·
Secondary
Diploma with 7,500 hours of leading & directing projects and 35 hours of PMP training
OR
·
Four-year
degree with 4,500 hours of leading & directing program and 35 hours of
Project Management training
3.
Join
the local PMI community and become a PMI member. Being a PMI registered
member gives the applicant free access to the digital copy of the PMBOK guide.
It also helps in developing project management networks and creates better job
opportunities. It usually takes less than a day to become a PMI member.
4. Go through the PMBOK guide twice. This
is the most important step and it requires extensive revision of the course.
You will need to revise the entire course at least twice to get hold of the
contents. Mock tests and flash cards come handy here as the PMP certification syllabus is quite
large and needs multiple reviews and practice to complete it.
5. Take the professional training. The
core objective of the training is to help you gain in-depth knowledge and
understanding of the PMBOK guide, which will in turn give you the confidence to
successfully clear the certification exam. There are majorly 3 ways to take the
mandatory PMP training. They are:
·
Classroom
training.
·
Online
or instructor-led training.
·
Online
self-training.
6. It is also advised to not just rely on PMBOK
guide and take mock tests as well as supplementary guides to help you along the
preparation. Getting a Free PMP Simulator exam is a great way
to test your knowledge. You will have a fair idea as what all to prepare from
the PMBOK guide as it contains all the important questions.
7. Have positive approach while
attempting your questions on the exam day.
