Some basic PMP certification guidelines

The Project management certification is one of the most sought out professional certifications, which is in great demand for almost all the industries across the world. Certification holders tend to raise a ladder of the organization and consequently obtain developed skills and knowledge along with great rewards and pays.

The applicant must meet the required eligibility criterion and qualify to become a PMI Certified Project Manager. The criterion is as follows:

·         Obtain a Secondary Diploma with 7,500 hours of leading and directing projects and 35 hours of Project Management education
                                                                  OR
·         Obtain a Four-year degree with 4,500 hours of leading and directing program and 35 hours of Project Management education

The PMP certification exam is designed to test the knowledge and skills of the applicant. The examination covers concepts and theories that are derived from the latest PMBOK Guide. The examination comprises of 200 multiple choice questions and the applicant is allotted 4 hours to complete the exam. The examination consists of questions from the 5 process groups and the 10 knowledge areas mentioned in the PMBOK Guide. Below are the 5 domains of the process groups:

·         Planning.
·         Initiating.
·         Executing.
·         Monitoring & Controlling.
·         Closing.

A 35-hour PMP training is mandatory, irrespective of the education or experience the applicant holds. The applicant must also earn 60 professional development hours (PDs) every 3 years to maintain the PMP certification.

There are 3 types of PMP course available online that will help go through the program within a short time. They are:

·         Classroom training.

·         Online or self-study training.

·         Live-online or instructor-led training.

There are several sources over the web that can provide you sample question papers and mock tests that are meant for PMP training. Take references from other project management guides and PMP exam prep course as they cover the same domains as the PMBOK guide but in a more accessible language. Choose the study materials accordingly that will help you prepare for the examination.
