Tutorial on Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

What is PMP?

Project Management Professional (PMP) is a globally recognized certification offered by the PMI. Individuals who have earned the certification have demonstrated their extensive knowledge and mastery of project management concepts, tools and techniques. The certification helps one to manage and align a project of program and projects to meet strategic objectives.

A panel reviews the applicant before proceeding towards PMP Certification. They assess the professional experience and skills and in turn decide whether the candidate is eligible for it. You must earn certain educational and professional experience all of which that have been accumulated over the last 15 years. The criterion is:
.With secondary diploma: Minimum 8 years (96 months) of Professional Business experience and Minimum 7 years (10,500 hours) of non-overlapping Project Management experience.
.With a four-year degree: Minimum 8 years (96 months) of Professional Business experience and Minimum 4 years(6,000 hours) of non-overlapping Project Management experience.

Below is the timeline of the PMP Certification process:

1.Certification Application :

The application is to be filled out and submitted along with the educational credentials and PMP training documentsSome of the details submitted include several months and hours of Project Management experience and an in-depth documenting.

2.PMP Audit :

Applications must go under an audit due to certain factors that are needed to be clarified.

Following that, the applicant needs to prepare documents and references involved in the projects.

3.Panel Review :

The applicant undergoes a panel review which evaluates the skills and professional experience. The references are also sometimes inquired from the information provided in the application.

4.Certification Preparation process :

Various resources are accessible to study and have a PMP exam prep for the certification, whereas training and seminars are also held for extra education and knowledge.

5.PMP Certification :

The PMP exam course consists of 200 multiple choice questions out of which 175 are scored and the rest 25 pretest (unscored).  The assigned time to complete the examination is 4 hours.

The candidates who clear and earns a certification must actively maintain and furthermore renewal of their certifications every 3 years through participation in the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Program.

A PMP certification demonstrates that an individual is more adept at calculating the risks and benefits, finding solution and aligning them with the organization’s core strategy. Project Management and PMP training is crucial for an organization as it helps them to organize, prioritize and finance the projects.
